The Village Barn; located off of Route 662, just outside of Fleetwood, was a bar & restaurant up until the late 1940's, although during the Prohibition Era it was considered a speakeasy.
The original owners (in chronological order):
Daniel Merkel - Fruit Farmer
Owen Snyder - Fruit Farmer
1927/1928 acquired by Charles Oliver Bechtel
June (Bechtel, Daughter of Charles Oliver Bechtel) & Elmer Houck
2005 purchased by John Burns
It has been part of the same family for approximately 79-80 years (until I purchased the property). Over the past few years, I have lived on the property and made renovations. Along this journey, I have had the pleasure to meet and keep in contact with some of the family members. They have provided me with pictures, dates, as well as a wealth of verbal history. Lastly, I would like to extend my gratitude to Bobby Wentzel for all of the photos and for taking the time to tell me names and dates. Bobby Wentzel lived at the Village Barn in the 1940's until the summer of 1950.
Please check back often to see updated photos of the Village Barn, as well as properties that are available for purchase in the local area.
